Believe it or not, experts are predicting that because of the high numbers of children considered overweight and obese, this generation is on track to have a shorter lifespan than their parents.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you “Healthy Moments” from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

If you’re a parent, you can take action to help your children stay at a healthy weight by encouraging them to be more physically active. Here are some tips to help your children move more every day:

  • Encourage them to do things they enjoy, like playing basketball or jumping rope.
  • Help them find fun things to do besides watching TV, like riding a bike or playing catch.
  • And be active together as a family–one way is to plan outings such as trips to the zoo or a walk through the park.
And for more tips, visit our website at NIDDK or MyMajicDC.com Exit Disclaimer. This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers. Join me next week for more “Healthy Moments.”
