America’s children are heavier than ever. Consequently, many of them are at risk for health problems as adults. As parents, we can take steps to help our children avoid becoming obese as they grow up.

Kids grow at different rates and times, so it’s not always easy to know if there’s reason for concern. To find out, ask a health care provider. He or she can measure your child’s height and weight and can then recommend a plan of action.
Just putting your child on a diet is not the answer. Unhealthy diets can put their health at greater risk. The best way to lose weight is to eat healthy and be physically active.
