Alaska Native Undergraduate Summer Internship Program (ANUSIP)

In order to further increase the pool of Alaska Native students entering into biomedical research the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/ National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), and the University of Alaska have partnered to create the NIDDK Alaska Native Summer Internship Program (AN SIP).

This very prestigious summer program selects four Alaska Native undergraduate students to conduct research in a laboratory at the University of Alaska. The program provides 10 consecutive weeks of basic or clinical research education and training during the summer provided by experienced faculty currently active in research related to the mission of NIDDK.

Eligible Students:

Alaska Native Undergraduate students who have completed at least 1 year at an accredited institution

U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status

Provisions:

Alaska Native Undergraduate student participation allowance and housing allotment ($4,000)

Education-related expenses fee provided to the research mentor ($500)

Travel expenses to the Annual Scientific Research Presentation

Location and Duration:

Ten consecutive weeks of full-time research.

Students will conduct research at the University of Alaska, Anchorage (UAA) or Fairbanks (UAF).

Students are required to attend and participate in the NIDDK Research Symposium at the enf of the 10 weeks.
