Programs

NIDDK offers research training and mentorship in leading-edge labs and clinical facilities at NIDDK campuses in Bethesda, MD or Phoenix, AZ. All programs have formalized applications that may be due months in advance.

Short-term

Clinical and Resident Electives Programs: Endocrinology and Metabolism

Join a team of clinical associates and senior investigators on the clinical wards rotating among endocrine branches at the NIH.

Clinical and Resident Electives Programs: Hepatology

Join a team of clinical fellows, research nurses, and senior investigators evaluating, monitoring, and treating patients on liver disease protocols.

Resident Electives Program: Nephrology

Join a team of clinical fellows, attendings, advanced practitioners, and nursing staff in the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care of a wide spectrum of renal problems.

NIH Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research (SIP) for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

An opportunity for students in college, graduate, and professional school to spend a summer working shoulder to shoulder with visionary researchers and celebrated investigators in the Intramural Research Program at the NIH.

Apply to a year-long research immersion program for future clinician-scientists interested in a career in biomedical research.

Master’s Degree in Clinical Research

NIH-Duke Master’s Program in Clinical Research

Join one of the nation’s first training programs in clinical research. A collaboration between Duke University School of Medicine and the NIH, the program allows participants to attend formal courses at the Clinical Center by videoconferencing from Duke or on site at the NIH Bethesda campus.

Non-accredited Graduate Medical Education

Hepatology Fellowship Program

Prepare for a career in academic hepatology by participating in a range of clinical, translational, or basic science research projects while acquiring skills in clinical hepatology and the management of patients with liver disease.

Accredited Graduate Medical Education

Inter-institute Endocrinology Fellowship Program

Join a program designed to train physician scientists in the subspecialty of endocrinology for careers in research, academia, pharmaceutical development, and clinical practice.

University of Maryland/NIH Clinical Scholars Gastroenterology Fellowship Program

Prepare for a career in academic gastroenterology through one year of clinical training at the University of Maryland Medical Center and two years of participation in clinical research projects, consultative services, and outpatient clinics at the NIH Clinical Center.
