Professional & Continuing Education (CME & CE)
Caring for people with chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is not easy. Members of the health care team, including pharmacists, physicians, and registered dietitians, must communicate complex messages, often in a short amount of time. NIDDK has developed educational resources to enhance knowledge and skills around caring for people with these conditions.

Chronic Kidney Disease Nutrition Management Training Program
This five-module training program prepares registered dietitians (RDs) for counseling patients who have CKD, with each module focusing on a specific area of nutrition management for kidney disease patients. CE credit will be available soon through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. CE credits will only be awarded after registering and viewing the entire course on the accrediting partner’s website.
Kidney Disease Education Lesson Builder
This resource helps educators create and implement lesson plans for counseling patients with CKD about managing their disease and preparing for renal replacement therapy (RRT). These six lesson plans meet the needs of qualified providers seeking to deliver the Kidney Disease Education (KDE) Services benefit, as defined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Glomerular Disease Primer
The NIDDK Kidney Disease Section has developed a Glomerular Disease Primer that presents kidney anatomy, physiology, and histology and several major glomerular diseases.
