NIDDK reaches nationwide with National Diabetes Month activities
As part of NIDDK’s National Diabetes Month, NIDDK Director Dr. Griffin P. Rodgers took to radio and television to remind people that you are the center of your diabetes care team—NIDDK’s theme for this year’s activities.
"There is no one-size-fits-all approach to diabetes care and treatment plans need to consider each person’s values, goals, needs, and preferences," Rodgers said in various ways to more than 12 million viewers and listeners across the country. He also discussed how people can prevent type 2 diabetes and manage all types of diabetes, along with highlighting some of the NIDDK research that aims to improve outcomes for people with diabetes.
The interviews echoed Rodgers' November 1 statement about National Diabetes Month.
Talking with media outlets including WDVM-TV, The Tom Joyner Morning Show and Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell, Rodgers shared the importance of learning more about diabetes, a disease that affects more than 30 million Americans. He said that managing diabetes is a team effort that requires participation from the person with diabetes, as well as that person’s family, friends, health care team, and other networks of support.
