DR. RODGERS: For college athletes, physical activity is routine. But staying active throughout life benefits us all, especially if you are living with diabetes.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at NIH.

Adam Schefter, a reporter for ESPN and diabetes advocate explains.

MR. SCHEFTER: Uncontrolled diabetes can be scary and cause problems throughout your body. Working to keep your blood glucose at a level set by your health care team could prevent diabetes-related problems with your heart, kidneys, eyes, and teeth.

Along with taking insulin and other medicines you use, staying active and eating healthy can help manage your blood glucose levels. Talk with your health care team about how to add physical activity and healthy eating to your daily routine. Forming routines now can help you keep your diabetes in check throughout your life.

DR. RODGERS: Follow us @NIDDKgov. This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers with the NIH.
