DR. RODGERS: In the fight against COVID-19, communities of color value working with trusted messengers.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, a Director at the NIH.

My colleague, Dr. Eliseo Pérez-Stable, Director of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, or NIMHD, explains.

DR. PÉREZ-STABLE: At NIMHD, we greatly value combatting misinformation and mistrust of research. NIMHD co-leads the Community Engagement Alliance Against COVID-19 Disparities, or CEAL, which partners with communities hit hardest by the pandemic. We promoted and facilitated diversity and inclusion in COVID-19 research and worked to provide culturally tailored, science-based information.

By researching the connection between wellness and access to resources, we aim to improve health outcomes for communities of color.

DR. RODGERS: Follow us @NIDDKgov.
