DR. RODGERS: Regular medical check-ups are important for healthy aging, but how can you make the most of your doctor visits?
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at the National Institutes of Health or NIH.
My colleague, Dr. Richard Hodes, director of the NIH’s National Institute on Aging, has tips to help you prepare:
DR. HODES: Before your doctor’s visit, write down symptoms you’ve been having and list your prescribed and over-the-counter medicines. Be prepared with specific questions or concerns. If you are confused or have a hard time hearing, don’t be afraid to ask your doctor to clarify points or to speak louder. And consider bringing a friend or family member who can offer support and take notes to help you remember important information.
