DR. RODGERS: Now is an exciting time for Alzheimer’s Disease research, and you can play a role.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at NIH. My colleague, Dr. Richard Hodes, director of the National Institute on Aging at NIH, explains.

DR. HODES: Alzheimer’s Disease is an illness of the brain. Nerve cells in the brain lose function and are unable to connect, or they die. Over time, a person loses the ability to remember things, and to think clearly. Thanks to advances in our understanding of Alzheimer’s Disease, we are looking at better ways to help diagnose, treat, and even prevent Alzheimer’s. Testing new approaches is possible, because people like you have been willing to participate in Alzheimer’s clinical trials and other studies to learn more about the disease.

Whether you have a memory problem, family history of Alzheimer’s Disease, or no memory problems at all, you may be able to take part in research studies which may help you and future generations.

DR. RODGERS: Follow us @NIDDKgov. This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers.
